Job Description:

As an HGV (Truck) driver, your role will be to operate our large trucks to transport goods over long distances. You will play a crucial role in the transportation and logistics department, ensuring the efficient movement of goods between locations. Our HGV drivers need to possess the necessary licenses, adhere to safety regulations, and often work within tight schedules to meet delivery deadlines. The role requires good driving skills, attention to safety protocols, and the ability to handle long hours on the road.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Driving Responsibilities:

– Safely operate heavy goods vehicles in adherence to traffic laws and safety regulations.

– Ensure the secure and timely transportation of goods to designated locations.

  1. Loading and Unloading:

– Oversee the proper loading and unloading of goods onto and from the vehicle.

– Securely fasten and balance cargo to prevent shifting during transit.

  1. Vehicle Maintenance:

– Conduct routine inspections before and after trips to identify and report mechanical issues.

– Collaborate with the maintenance team to address and resolve any defects or malfunctions promptly.

  1. Route Planning:

– Efficiently plan and navigate routes, considering factors such as traffic, road closures, and delivery schedules.

– Utilize navigation systems and maps to ensure accurate and timely deliveries.

  1. Communication:

– Maintain effective communication with dispatchers, colleagues, and warehouse staff.

– Provide regular updates on delivery progress and promptly report any delays or issues.

  1. Customer Service:

– Interact professionally with customers during deliveries, representing the company positively.

– Assist with unloading goods and address customer inquiries or concerns courteously.

  1. Compliance:

– Adhere to regulations governing driving hours and rest breaks.

– Stay informed about changes in transport and safety legislation.

  1. Emergency Response:

– Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, such as breakdowns or accidents.

– Follow established procedures for reporting incidents and seeking assistance.

  1. Health and Safety:

– Commit to health and safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

– Ensure the safety of goods during transportation.

  1. Daily Cleaning:

– Keep the vehicle clean and well-maintained daily.

  1. Tracking System Following:

– Utilize tracking systems to monitor the progress of deliveries and ensure timely arrivals.

  1. Drive Within Approved Hours:

– Adhere strictly to approved driving hours to comply with regulations and prioritize driver well-being.

Qualifications:

    • Any relevant qualification.
    • Experience with the ERF is mandatory.
    • Knowledge and understanding of appropriate gear selection is mandatory.
    • Driving Licence
    • Passport
    • National ID
    • Excellent time management and prioritization.
    • Sober mind.
    • Smart phone.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Proven history of driving long distances.
    • Previous experience in travelling outside Malawi is advantageous.
    • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
    • Proficient in the use of WhatsApp.
    • Confident initiative-taker.
    • Willing to travel longer distances.
    • Our customers demand confidentiality and discretion, and candidates must have an existing right to live and work in Malawi.
